A message from the President
Dear visitor,
It is my great honor and pleasure to take over the presidency of the ISS Foundation. At the time of ending my presidency of the mother organization, the ISS/SIC, I emphasized the importance of surgeons taking a stance as a profession on global issues, such as the need for fundamental changes in the way we view constant economic growth and its consequences for the climate, unjust wars, the treatment of women in many countries, growing autocracy, and the erosion of democracy and the rules-based world order, just to mention a few.
To speak up, we need to be united and have a long-term perspective. To accomplish that, we need to involve our younger colleagues in pursuing the same goals. The vast majority of our younger colleagues live in developing countries. One excellent way to help them get involved is to offer travel scholarships to our biennial meeting. the Foundation has a long history of doing that, and we will continue.
By supporting these opportunities, we not only invest in the next generation of surgeons but also strenghten the global community that will carry our shared values forward.
So, get involved and support us, the future is now!

Travel Scholar Reception ISW 2026

International Surgical Week ISW 2026 in Mexico City, Mexico welcomed 26 exceptional Travel Scholars from across the globe, representing 14 countries, of which 7 out of the 26 Travel Scholars were supported by ISS Foundation.
Argentina, Australia, Cameroon, Chile, Ethiopia, India, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, and the USA.
For these scholars, attending ISW2026 was a pivotal moment. It offered not only access to the latest global advancements in surgical care and education, but also the chance to connect with peers and mentors committed to improving surgical systems worldwide. The experience was especially impactful as they return to their home countries equipped with new knowledge, skills, and a strengthened vision for the future of surgery.
We celebrate their contributions and look forward to the impact they will continue to make in their home countries and beyond.
